Oh OSCAR!

February 24, 2013

It’s Oscar time. The Red Carpet is starting right now. And, I am literally sitting on pins and needles right now to see whether Bradley Cooper goes with Armani or Hugo Boss for his big night.

No. I’m not. I have no doubt he’ll look yummy in whoever he decides to wear this evening.

What I’m really thinking about is my competitive streak. This is my Belmont Stakes. My Super Bowl. My World Series. Well, you get the point. Unfortunately, I never put any money down on my picks, which is really a shame considering I have a pretty good track record when it comes to predicting the Oscar winners.

So, I’m just going to imagine that all my horses will come in tonight and that it’s a big rain-day for me. I won’t tease you any longer. Yes, I am going to share my predictions with you, but I’m only giving you the big ones.

The 85th Annual Academy Awards air tonight, Sunday, February 24, 2013 on ABC.

Best Picture — ARGO

This film blew me away. Blew. Me. Away. I was sweating by the time the credits rolled. ARGO had me enthralled from beginning to end. This is a film that will not only be an important piece of cinematic history, but it represents the best of our American ideals. Personally, I always love a film that entertains while be educational, inspirational and emotionally powerful all at the same time. ARGO-FUCK-YOURSELF!!!!!!!!

Best Actress — Jennifer Lawrence

She was amazing in Silver Linings Playbook. Her range knows no bounds. Her face is so expressive and her ability to go from tough to vulnerable is astounding. And, I can not wait to see what she’s going to be wearing. I expect COLOR from her. I’d love to see her in a lime green number, but I bet she’ll go with a jewel tone. Anyway. This is Jennifer’s win to lose.

Best Actor — Bradley Cooper

One word. Incredible. His performance was incredible. He HAS to win Best Actor. Bradley Cooper was so so so good. Silver Linings Playbook wouldn’t have been anything without his performance.

*I know people are saying the Oscar should go to Daniel Day Lewis, but I totally disagree. Yeah yeah yeah…Daniel Day Lewis can inhabit anyone’s persona and is a master at his craft. Blah, blah, blah….I fell asleep during Lincoln.

Best Supporting Actress — Helen Hunt

Come on. A sex surrogate for a quadriplegic in The Sessions??? Half the academy probably didn’t even need to watch her performance to give her a nomination, for that role. But, no one can take on a role like that and make it emotionally relatable like Hunt.

* I’d love to see Sally Field win, just so we can hear, one more time, “You like me, you really like me!”  And, I know a lot of people have been talking up Anne Hathaway, but I just can’t give it to her. Of course, she’s amazingly talented, but 1) I can’t stand musicals, and 2) I feel like all you have to do is go from skinny to anorexic skinny and bam, it’s Oscar talk.

Best Supporting Actor — Robert De Niro

This was the toughest category for me, but I’m going big with Silver Linings Playbook here. I gotta tell you, the performances were outstanding. Robert De Niro was mind-boggling good. He was fantastic. Fabulous. Real. I want him to win.

*I was torn between De Niro and Alan Arkin for this. Alan Arkin gives such good Old Hollywood in ARGO, but I had to go with my gut. I also thought Tommy Lee Jones was great in Lincoln but De Niro and Arkin were it for me.

Best Director — David O. Russel, Silver Linings Playbook

Let me first say that this really should go to Ben Affleck and I think it’s a travesty of the arts that he was left out of this category. So, I have to go with my runner-up, David O. Russel for Silver Linings Playbook. That whole movie was one big emotional and psychological land-mine. I can not even imagine what it would take to direct a film like this. But, Russel did an amazing job.

*Steven Spielberg did a great job for Lincoln, but I really don’t think the Academy will give it to him. They might throw it to Ang Lee for Life of Pi, but I think Russel has it in the bag.

And that’s how I see the big ones going down tonight. Thank you for joining My Daily Pill at the Oscars! 😉

What do you guys think???
