Sex Crazed

January 20, 2012

I know…I’ve  been quiet since my last post. I’ve been sex crazed. Not in the way you think. Well, maybe a little.

This is my official proclamation; I am a Contemporary Romance and Erotica book addict. That’s right. I’d like to say I need rehab, but I really don’t want my addiction treated. It’s too much fun. These books are delicious, and I can’t believe that I have gone almost 40 years without enjoying them.

In no uncertain terms, I have been medically told, “Put the books down!” Yep. I’m getting close to an intervention. I can feel it.

Fifty Shades of Grey started it all. Damn you “Fifty.” (The last book in the series, Fifty Shades Freed, is out today. The countdown is over.) And, now I can’t stop. I have read a total of 28 Contemporary Romance and Erotica books since the beginning of December. Do the math. That’s about 4 books a week. Many of them read in one day. Mark doesn’t know what to do with me anymore.

The laundry has been piling up. Sam’s Birthday party thank you notes have been patiently waiting to be mailed. I’ll be lucky if the dry cleaner hasn’t given my sweaters and pants away by now. My great achievement of becoming punctual, has lapsed. My writing has stalled. And, I have neglected all of my very important TV shows. You know I have it bad if I’m not watching any television.

Reading

What? Leave me alone. Can't you see I'm reading something really delicious?

Not good. All I want to do is get back into the house with my yummy reads, while enjoying my “big hot” cup of coffee.

See what I did there? I’m now speaking like a character out of these novels. And, it’s happening unintentionally. Hard, throbbing, silky, pulsating, heaving and heady have now entered my everyday vernacular. I’m like a walking talking Harlequin Romance novel. Mark just shakes his head in amusement, and “growing” concern. (I couldn’t help myself.)

Just the other day, Mark asked me if I wanted to order pizza, and I responded with, “Oh yes. I’m aching for it.” He just looked at me, shook his head and muttered, “I’m in trouble.”

Oh boy, is he ever.

To all the girls out there; I’ve been reading authors Shayla Black, Lori Foster, Jaci Burton, Bella Andre and Lacey Alexander, just to name a few. Take a look at them.

What can I say? These books are fun, entertaining and sexy. And, they’ve kept me “in the mood” until Fifty Shades Freed was released. Did I mention it was released today? Yay!

Speaking of “Fifty,” I have been relentless in my quest to spread the love, so to speak. I tortured my friends Kim and Meredith this weekend, while skiing in Vermont, to read “Fifty.” They made me so proud.

Kim and Mer

Kim turned to me and said, "Yes, Shar. We're reading it. And, yes. We love it!"

Kim and Mer facing me

That's Meredith "Mer" smiling big and saying, "I will never doubt you're literary recommendations again."

I originally posted about Fifty Shades of Grey on January 7th, Read Me “Fifty” Times, and the wonderful E.L. James was kind enough to re-tweet my post on her twitter page, @E_L_James. (Go to my twitter page @xomydailypill to see my tweets with E.L. James, herself.)

So, tonight I get to curl up with my glass of Chardonnay, and “my Fifty.” But, let’s face it. Nothing beats the real thing. So, let’s just say when Mark gets home, I’m going to show him that I absolutely can put those books down. Well, at least, for a half-hour!
