Date Night

November 20, 2011

Tonight was date night. Mark and I haven’t been out together, alone, in I don’t know how long. No, I do remember. It was the Bon Jovi concert about a year and a half ago.

Bon Jovi Concert

Found a pic of us at the Bon Jovi concert, in NJ.

I was looking forward to tonight. Actually, really looking forward to it.

It’s always so easy for us to cancel the sitter, go to our separate TV viewing stations, and then hit “lights out” after SNL. So, when our plans changed for this weekend,  I was shocked that Mark wanted to GET a sitter and go out, just the two of us. I must admit, I was flattered. Flattered and excited.

Basically, for me, foreplay started when he said, “Let’s get a sitter, and have a nice leisurely dinner. Just us. We haven’t done that in a while.”

I made our sitter, Nicole, document the big event before we left. Here we are ready to go.

Date night

Aww. Such a rare treat. So excited to have alone time.

Now, I’ve had my share of therapy.  And, I’ve read my share of “Men are From Mars, Women are From Venus” type of books. So, one thing I know is that a man needs to be a man. He needs to be the hunter, and women want to be hunted. Pursued.

What does this have to do with dinner? Simply translated, Mark needed to be the one to make the plans. Not me.  All other social engagements I organize, but not on date night. Date night requires the man to do the work.

So, what did Mark plan for tonight? Did we head out to a chic restaurant in the city, you ask? Not exactly. Did we go to a quaint little patisserie on the water, perhaps? No, not it. Did we head up to northern Westchester and dine at Blue Hill, possibly? Not even lukewarm.

We headed here:

Mark holding door

Mark being gallant and holding the door for me at our local sushi place, Azuma. (Located next to the train station, but don't let that fool you. It has great sushi.)

Dinner was delicious. We had a great time. I didn’t order too many rolls. And, it was practically empty, so it was nice and quiet. Sort of like those empty cinemas Justin Bieber rents out for Selena Gomez. Very romantic.

We toasted to each other. Mark drank his Sapporo. I drank my horrible glass of sushi restaurant quality chardonnay. Well, two glasses. Maybe three.

Tipsy

Good times.

We then headed off to the movies. Now, if you’ve been reading my posts, you know I’m a Twi-hard/mom/nut. So, when Mark agreed to see Breaking Dawn, I was thrilled. I couldn’t wait to see this film.

Frankly speaking, it SUCKED. My poor husband had to sit through that horror. And, I had to listen to his commentary throughout this debacle of a film.  We still had fun, and thoroughly enjoyed disliking Breaking Dawn together, so it wasn’t a total waste of time.

But, I’m going to break it down like this…A little goes a long way. Yes, I’m talking to the men right now. Taking out the garbage, making dinner, taking the kids to their activities or a birthday party or to school once in a while, asking us out on a date and making the arrangements, calling in the middle of the day just to say hi, telling us we’re doing an amazing job with the kids, a simple compliment here and there, and telling us we’re fabulous now and then, is all FOREPLAY.

Wait, what the hell am I still doing writing? I’m heading up to bed now. I think you can figure out how the evening ends.
