A Friendly Dinner

November 6, 2011

Mark and I just got back from a delicious dinner with our friends Julie and Eric. And, let me tell you, there is nothing like being with friends who you’ve known since you were in elementary school.

Being in Mom-World, you end up meeting lots of new people and have the opportunity to make lots of new friends. But, there is always a feeling of being “on display”, as Melissa Gorga from The Real Housewives of New Jersey has coined.

What I mean is that, the people you meet from this stage of life, don’t know who you were pre-kids, or pre-marriage for that matter. And, everyone wants to be accepted and is afraid of being judged. Afraid of being judged for everything, from what you wear to your parenting to what you say.

So, being with friends that have known you since “way back when” is not only relaxing and refreshing, but fun. Mark turned to me, as we were walking toward our car, and said, “I haven’t seen you this relaxed and happy in so long. You looked so at ease, like you were having so much fun.”

And, I was. I did. I had no nerves, spoke without worry, and laughed freely. All in all, a great evening. And, while I love making new friends, I cherish my oldest and dearest.
